Youth and Magistrates’ Court legal assistance. Aitken Harters’ crime team offer support in and around North London.
If you have been charged with a criminal offence we can represent you when your case is dealt with at Court. We are a friendly and personable team and shall ensure that your case is properly prepared. We have extensive experience in the preparation of contested trials and guilty pleas. All of our solicitors are specialist advocates.
Additionally, we can undertake representation for Respondents in ASBO and related proceedings.
If you have been charged with theft, burglary, antisocial behaviour or a drug related offence and aged between 10 and 17, your case will be dealt with at a Youth Court. Youth courts don’t have a jury. They usually have 3 magistrates or a district judge. A requirement of the youth court is that you must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
The outcome of a case tried in a youth court will be dependent upon the offence, your age, your previous record, your plea and mitigating circumsatnces. The outcome in terms of sentencing can be a community sentence or detention and training orders.
Aitken Harter have a team of specialists who work on behalf of young people involved in the criminal justice process.
Please contact us if you have been charged and you are awaiting a first appearance at court. Legal Aid is generally available to cover the cost incurred in representing you. If Legal Aid funding is unavailable then please request a quote for our fees. If you do pay privately and you are successful in the Magistrates Court we may be able to recover some of your costs at Legal Aid rates.
Our local Magistrates’ and Youth Court is at nearby Highbury Corner where we appear on a regular basis.
